200 structures threatened by wildfire near Yellowstone National Park
A portion of Yellowstone Lake has been closed to the motorized and non-motorized watercraft to allow water scooping planes into the area to help battle the June Fire burning 13 miles from Yellowstone’s east entrance.
The 2,000-acre fire was reported Thursday in the June Creek drainage of Shoshone National Forest. Two-hundred structures or residents are threatened by the fire.
Two planes are being used to help suppress the fire. Water is being gathered from Yellowstone Lake, resulting in the closure.
The operation is expected to last one week.
