Idaho legislators sponsor bill aimed at preventing hot car deaths

Senator Mark Nye and Idaho Representative Elaine Smith are drafting a Good Samaritan bill. The bill would stop people from being liable if they were to break into a hot car to save a child or an animal.

Representative Smith said concerned citizens in the area contacted her after they discovered Idaho does not have Good Samaritan law in place.

“We were contacted by Pocatello citizens as saying ‘as our legislators will you please do something about this’. So we are responding to constituents,” Representative Smith said.

She urged other Idaho lawmakers to co-sponsor the bill.

Currently they are reviewing the bill to see how it would work with laws Idaho already has in place.
