Regional airports attract eclipse visitors

Huge eclipse crowds had a heavy impact on eastern Idaho transportation and it wasn’t all on the ground. The Civil Air Patrol notes that a large number of visiting airplanes kept both small and large airports busy Monday. According to CAP statistics, there were 44 airplanes counted at Idaho Falls Regional Airport on Sunday. The number grew to 150 on Monday. Other airports saw similar increases: Sunday Monday Warm Springs: 16 20 Mackay 4 18 Driggs 15 42 Rexburg 23 83 Rigby 4 32 Idaho Falls 44 150 Mud Lake Unk. 30 fixed wing, 2 rotocraft, 10 powered parachutes Except for a plane that failed to power to take-off speed and rolled off the end of the Rexburg Airport Monday, there were no serious accidents.
