Eastern Idaho State Fair features minature horses, drawing crowds

Think of the Eastern Idaho State Fair and you probably think of food, rides and entertainment, but inside the barns is a huge show in a tiny package. The miniature horse show draws crowds.

“It is a last fun get out with the kids,” Jessica Cline, who has been showing horses her whole life, said.

There are dozens of categories to compete in ranging from young to old and short to tall. The horses are lead by their owner through the arena. A judge will look at their trotting, posture and if they live up to the expectations of being a mini.

“It is a lot of work,” Cline said. “It is a lot of fun.”

The draw to showing miniature horses has everything to do with their size.

“The smaller the cuter,” Cline said. “Not really functional, but the smaller the cuter.”

Horse showing will continue at the fair through Tuesday.
