Immigration lawyer reacts to DACA repeal

The DACA announcement is affecting people in Eastern Idaho.

A local immigration lawyer says the impact the repeal of DACA will be significant.

According to a 2016 DACA report, Idaho has almost 6,000 DACA recipients. Many of them growing up here, knowing Idaho as their only home. Attorney Tim Jones says it’s time for those affected to figure out any other options and to find ways to keep working.

He added this impacts “dreamers” who are married to U.S. citizens and those who have kids who are U.S. citizens.

“These are people that got an education from U.S. schools,” Tim Jones, immigration attorney, said. “We’ve paid taxes so that they could attend school. And now when they’re contributing and paying taxes and working, we’re pulling all that away from them.”

Jones also said if you have already filed a DACA form, they should still be accepting them. They’re no longer accepting new applications.
