Bridger-Teton fuel reduction project to begin
The Bridger Teton National Forest is preparing to launch its major Teton to Snake fuels reduction project as early as next week.
A contractor will begin as early as next week along the Old Teton Pass Road, Trail Creek trails, and Black Canyon summer home area. The work will include cutting and stacking forest debris in an effort to minimize high fire hazards.
The project is designed to reduce the risk of fire, hazards to firefighters, and reduce resource impacts. It will also help the forest meet legal obligations to protect wilderness characteristics within the Palisades Wilderness Study Area.
The forest is advising visitors and trail users that while contractors are cutting trees in the Trail Creek area they will be using the area at their own risk. Crews will be working with chain saws felling trees.
The project is within the Wildland Urban Interface defined by the forest’s 2014 Teton County Wildfire Protection Plan.
