Iona man kicks off Iron Dream Team event

A man paralyzed from the neck down 23 years ago is another month close to completing his goal of running the Iron Man Course in Kona, Hawaii in April 2018.

Rod Hutchins officially kicked off his Iron Dream team event to motivate people in the community to overcome their own hurdles.

Rod sat down with Local News 8 to give us an update where he is at in his training.

“Currently I am training right now, I’m just now getting to the portion of the bike where I can be two or three hours on the bike we’re still working on the swimming and working on the running,” says Rod. “I definitely have my opportunity to grow and progress over the next seven eight months but I’ve surrounded myself with a team where I’m very confident I can get myself there if im willing to do the hard work and put in the effort.”

The community had the chance to hear from legendary Highland Utah Rugby coach Larry Gelwix about championship strategies and how to better improve ones self.

Rod is currently training to run the Iron Man course in his own race, separate from the Iron Man competition.
