Blackfoot airport receives FAA grant

The Blackfoot Airport is making some changes.

The airport received a $400,000 grant from the FAA for rehabilitation. They resurfaced the north and sound ends of the runway. They are also relocating the crossovers from the taxi way to the runway.

The FAA helps fund rehab and resurfacing projects about every 7-10 years. Federal money help support airports and maintain the upkeep of the runways so they don’t deteriorate.

“Regulations change with the FAA,” Richard Mangum, City of Blackfoot Public Works Director, said. “They have to oversee the plans and relocating the crossovers to a different position. And that means changing the lights and adding other lights.”

The airport has been closed for the past three weeks to work on these projects. It is expected to re-open next Tuesday.
