Hypnotherapy gaining popularity in Southeastern Idaho

Hypnotherapy is becoming more and more popular in Southeastern Idaho and Utah. Lige Rose, a clinical hypnotherapist in Blackfoot, Idaho said hypnosis can help some people stop smoking and even better manage pain during childbirth.

While there are many misconceptions about hypnotherapy, Rose said hypnosis will not make you do something you do not want to.

“There is a lot of myths and misconceptions around hypnosis but all it is, it allows subconscious access to thoughts, memories, imagination, emotions, so you can use them in a therapy setting to get to the root of issues quicker,” said Rose.

According to Rose, hypnosis can help people get in touch with emotional triggers that cause them to smoke, eat or act out.

“So by using the therapeutic processes with hypnotherapy it allows us access to those old memories or emotions that we do not generally recognize until there is about of anger,” said Rose. “We kind of imagine it like a steam pot filling up with all of our emotions and so many of us live our lives and then all of the sudden we are mad and do not know why. And it is these emotions subconsciously that we do not consciously recognize or feel or think about.”

Some believe hypnotherapy can help with pain management, something Rose’s wife took advantage of during labor.

“When we got to the hospital both times the nurses did not think I was as far along in labor as I was because I was totally calm. Like I was having contractions and it would not look like I was having a contraction,” said Kayelee Rose, who benefited from birth hypnosis. “I was very aware of the contractions and I knew they were happening. If I wanted to I could feel the intensity of them but as long as I stayed in hypnosis and either focused on visualization or staying calm it was not painful,” she added.

Rose said while many people can benefit from hypnotherapy, he does not work with drug or alcohol addictions without a prescription from the client’s doctor.

Hypnotherapy sessions can cost anywhere from $50 to $100. Multiple sessions also might be needed in order to see long-term effects.
