Museum of Idaho kicks off exhibit with lighting ceremony

The Museum of Idaho held its tree lighting ceremony to open up the Olde Fashioned Christmas and Winter Festival.

The event started with a visit from Santa Claus coming in by a horse drawn carriage to help start the lighting ceremony.

Nativity sets from all the over the world are scattered around the museum, along with Santa Claus figurines, gingerbread houses, angels, as well as displays of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and other winter festivals.

“The Olde Fashioned Christmas and Winter Festival has been going on for ten years because of a donation from Chesbro Music Company, they sponsor it and that is how we can do it for free for the last 10 years,”Museum of Idaho Marketing Director Deborah Chessey tells Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News, “and the Interfaith Alliance is a group of all the different churches and organizations in town and they get together and the entire community comes together for this, all of the Nativity’s are brought in here by different members of the community and it takes a couple of days and put all of this together.”

Kids can visit with Santa December 9th, and December 16th from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M.

The event is free to the and runs from December 8th to December 30th. It will be closed on Sunday’s and on Christmas Day.
