Bonneville County fourth graders try skiing
Kids in Bonneville School District 93 are skiing but with a little bit of a twist.
“We walk a mile everyday, no matter what, first thing in the morning. Well, because of the skis we are able to extend it a little and give them a little diversity,” says Susan Scheer-Shanklin
Thanks to a donation from the Nordic Ski Patrol, the kids are able to try out cross country skiing. Even though there’s no snow, they’re making the best of it.
“We wish we could go outside with them, maybe in the future we will be able to but the difference in their achievement and academic success is huge because of the physical activity. To get that brain going, get that body moving is very important,” says Scheer-Shanklin
And the kids are loving it.
“I’ve had kids that have missed other activities in order to be here for the thirty minute period of time to ski, or slide and glide as we call it in our hallway. Kids are so excited, they can’t even handle it. Plus, it made them realize they have to get their work done so they can participate.”
