Warm winter not stopping ski season
It’s been a warm winter so far. The people over at Kelly Canyon say that’s not stopping things this season. They say even though it’s been warmer, the snow has still been great.
“It’s been a warmer winter this year, but the snow has still been really good. A lot of people don’t realize that down in the valley when there’s not much down there that even if the temperature is warm here that the temperature and the skiing is really great,” says David Stoddard, co-owner of Kelly Canyon.
And their school program keeps them busy.
“For decades we’ve had many schools here coming up every season. We have about 70 schools, elementary, junior high and high schools as well as university levels.”
The sixth graders from North Fremont got the chance to hit the slopes.
“It’s a good program for us because Kelly Canyon gives us a great deal and the kids that could never ski otherwise get the chance to learn and kids that love to ski just have some more fun,” Brenda Cude, mother of student skier.
They say kids having the chance to try skiing is important.
“Young kids can come up here and be an athlete. Not everyone is going to be on the basketball team or the cheer squad or the volleyball team but every young person that wants to can come here and be an athlete on the slopes,” says Stoddard.
“Gives them the ability and skills to do things that are hard and that’s a life lesson they can apply in so many ways,” says Cude.
Kelly Canyon is open 6 days a week. Monday through Thursday 12:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
