New EIRMC technology introduced making labor and delivery more comfortable

Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center has developed new technology that allows mothers in the Labor and Delivery Unit to no longer be confined to their beds.

Traditionally, fetal monitoring confines mothers to their beds during labor, but this new wireless patch system monitors fetal heart rate, maternal heart rate, and uterine activity through Bluetooth. This allows moms to get up, use the bathroom, shower and talk with family members.

EIRMC employee, Alicia Conlon stated, “I think what it promotes for our patients is comfort and freedom, something that a lot of women want in their birthing experience.

EIRMC is the only hospital in Eastern Idaho currently using this monitoring technology.
