EMT hurt in chain-reaction I-80 crash
An Emergency Medical Technician working at the scene of an Interstate 80 crash was injured early Thursday.
The crash happened around 3:38 a.m. at Milepost 214 near Rawlins.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a truck was traveling eastbound on I-80. When traffic in front of the truck slowed, the driver applied his brakes and lost control of the vehicle. The truck jackknifed and went through the median and cable barriers into the westbound lane. It overturned onto its side and blocked both westbound lanes of travel.
Just moments later, a westbound truck hit the overturned truck, ripping it in half.
A third truck, also traveling west, hit the rear of the second truck.
All of the drivers sustained non-life threatening injuries.
An ambulance crew was stopped on the median shoulder assisting the initial crash. Yet another east bound truck lost control and its combination unit and collided with the rear of the ambulance.
The ambulance struck one of the EMT’s, knocking her down. She sustained minor injuries. The driver of that truck was not injured.
Westbound traffic was diverted off at exit 214 as wreckers were called in to the clear up the scene.
A full investigation is continuing.
