Idaho public schools oppose private school vouchers
Idaho’s public school’s may be facing problem’s with private school vouchers.
These vouchers could redirect taxpayers fund’s from public schools.
The Idaho Education Association, the Idaho School Boards Association and the Idaho Association of School Administrators are leading the way to tell legislators to not approve any of these vouchers.
Idaho is currently 49th out of 50 in per pupil spending, and the groups say taking away any more funds from public schools would affect their resources.
As well, the group says rural schools would drastically be hurt by the reduction in funds- which is those schools primary source of funding.
IEA board member, Angela Gillman, says that everybody deserves a fair shot- no matter the economic status.
“We’re having a shortage of resources anyway, so less money means less resources, less people to help, less teachers in the classroom,” Gillman said. “Class sizes get tighter and higher and that is, that’s detrimental to our students.”
Currently private schools are not funded by any public dollars.
Private schools have come to legislators to ask for funding, but so far legislators have not deemed them to have any.
On Saturday, the organization will be holding a meeting held at the Idaho Falls public library at 4:30 pm. 3 local legislators will be there for anyone who has questions, and wants to talk about the private school vouchers.
