Challis man to face murder charges in June

Legal proceedings for 53-year-old Mark Charles Wilson of Challis have been continued until later this year.

Wilson is accused in the March 24 shooting death of 75-year-old Patricia Ann Brown.

Wilson was originally scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Custer County Monday morning. He is charged with premeditated first degree murder by poison, torture, vengeance, extortion, or sadistic inclinations. A second felony enhancement charge is for use of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony.

According to court papers filed by Chief Custer County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Talbot, Wilson called Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 3:11 p.m. March 24 and told dispatchers he had just shot Pat Brown. He claimed she was a friend of his and said her body could be found at her residence.

Talbot said he and Sheriff Stu Lumpkin met Wilson outside the home. After he was cuffed, Wilson stated ” I shot Pat,” said Talbot.

Wilson stated he had been drinking and Talbot said he did notice an odor of alcohol on Wilson’s breath, according to court documents. Wilson was then booked into the Custer County Jail.

Wilson told the Sheriff where to find the weapon he used to shoot the woman. The 22-caliber rifle was found behind the door of the master bedroom.

His preliminary hearing was continued until June 11.
