Student opens first European dessert shop in Rexburg
If you follow the exquisite scent of sugar-coated pastries, holding a melting pod of warm Nutella emanating from a tent in Rexburg, you’ll wind-up at the community’s first European dessert shop.
No, this isn’t a dream. But, it was for BYU-Idaho student Jeremy Carlson who started the specialty bakery, Crispy Cones, after returning from his two-year mission in Prague.
Trdelnik is a famous Czech pastry, filled with Nutella, fruit, and whipped cream.
“It started after I once had a dream I was making these during my mission in the Czech Republic, which seemed kind of crazy,” Carlson said. “But when I came to Rexburg to try it out, I got push-back from a lot of business owners, so I used this as motivation to find a spot and make it happen.”
But Karie Annes, another small dessert company, welcomed Crispy Cones to pop-up next to them and now two businesses are doing what they can to help feed the community a symbiotic dessert duo – custards and cones.
The Crispy Cones grand opening is on Friday, May 4 from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m.
The address is 328 N. 2nd E. in Rexburg.
All proceeds from the grand opening will be donated to the local nonprofit, Family Services Center, which promotes safety for those impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
