Bomb squad demolishes firework arsenal

The Region 7 Bomb Squad was called to Fremont County Thursday, May 3, to destroy a minor arsenal.

Idaho Falls Police said it was the largest single demolition the squad had conducted in the 11 years it has been operational. The material included the destruction of 82 mortars and three-quarters of a case of dynamite.

The South Fremont Fire Department said the flash powder and mortars, used to make fireworks, were dropped off at the St. Anthony fire station by a resident who was cleaning out a garage.

IFPD Sergeant John Marley said the Idaho Falls Fire Department was also involved. They put out a fire caused by the demolition.

The demolition itself had no safety issues and no one was harmed.
