Jackson water management meeting set
River runners and other water users can get a first-hand look at regional federal reservoir operation plans for this spring and summer in Jackson Tuesday, May 15.
Right now, the Bureau of Reclamation is forecasting the Snake River at Heise at 114 percent of average. Jackson Lake, which is currently at 74 percent of capacity, is expected to fill in June. Demand for storage release this summer is expected to be moderate.
Jackson Lake is located near Moran, Wyoming. It is part of the BOR’s Minidoka Project and was originally built in 1911. Parts of the dam were replaced under the Safety of Dams Act in 1989.
With current snowpack, the Bureau believes there may be potential for flooding downstream of Jackson Lake Dam, due to possible significant inflows from tributaries. Those tributaries may also experience flood level high flows.
Caution is being advised in those areas throughout the snowmelt season. Flood operations for the Snake River above Heise, Idaho are determined by a forecast coordinated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation.
The water management meeting will be held at the 49er Inn conference room at 330 W. Pearl Street in Jackson beginning at 5:30 p.m.
