Employer immigration meeting set
Jackson based “One 22” is hosting an educational forum for employers Wednesday, May 16, to review employers’ rights and responsibilities related to employment eligibility documentation of their workforce. The group said the forum comes in response to the increased and unpredictable presence of Federal Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the area.
“As the season picks up speed, we anticipate this summer’s labor market will be extremely tight with employers doing everything they can to recruit, hire, train and retain their staff so that 2018 is characterized by the high level of customer service and expertise that Jackson Hole is famous for,” said Sharel Lund Love, Executive Director of One22. “The growing presence of ICE in our community has many employers on edge about how they can protect their staff, their business, and their customers.”
Labor and employment law attorney Paula Fleck with the fire of Holland and Hart LLP will lead with a presentation followed by an open question and answer session.
One 22 Program Director Carey Stanley said the forum will inform businesses of their rights and obligations as well as the associated risks of non-compliance. “Our hope is to come together as a community to support our neighbors and help keep each other informed,” said Stanley.
The session is set from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Hansen Hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson.
One 22 was created in 2016 with the merger of three Jackson-based agencies including the Community Resource Center, Latino Resource Center and El Puente. The name, One 22, refers to the number 22 on a Wyoming license plate for Teton County.
