Idaho Falls overcomes early deficit, sweeps double header, advances to district championship
The Idaho Falls Tigers baseball team came into the 4A District 5-6 conference as the one seed.
The Tigers compiled a 15 and 4 record in district play.
They faced the Pocatello Indians, whom they beat 3 times prior to that.
Pocatello compiled a 10 and 9 record on the season and took down Century to get one step closer to the district championship game.
The Indians dropped game 1 of the double header 12 to 1 in a 5 inning game. Idaho Falls score 9 runs in the first inning and never looked back.
In game two, it was a different story for the two teams.
Pocatello drew first blood when Taisom Casper doubled driving in Payton Cleaves with two outs in the first inning.
Idaho Falls tied it up when Jaxon Sorenson lifted a sacrifice fly to score Cannon Thompson.
In the top of the second, the Indians scored 6 times, highlighted by a 3 run double from Jadon Marley.
In the bottom of the 3rd, with Idaho Falls down 7 to 1, Cabes Woolf came up with the bases loaded and had a ground ball headed for centerfield, but Payton Cleave showed off his range, fielding the ball and touching second to end the threat.
Idaho Falls would go on to score 15 times in the fourth through 6th innings, highlighted by a 7 run fourth to take the lead and sweep the double header and advance to the championship.
Dillon Lenonn, Sorenson and Woolf led the way for the Tigers with three hits a piece. Sorenson had 4 RBI’s while Woolf had 3.
Braxton Ball, Sorenseon and Woolf each had two doubles.
The Tigers will play in the district title game May 11th, at 4:00 P.M. at Melaleuca Field.
