Idaho firefighters rescue pet cow stuck between 2 trees

Idaho firefighters say they had to think outside the box during a recent assignment: getting a pet cow out of two trees.

The Idaho Statesman reports the Middleton Rural Fire District crew found Dixie the cow wedged between two tall trees in rural Canyon County in western Idaho on Sunday.

Middleton Fire Deputy Chief Victor Islas says they are not sure how Dixie lodged herself between the trees, but think she might have been scratching herself and kept moving.

Middleton Fire consulted with a couple of firefighters with Sand Hollow Fire Protection District who had experience with cows on the best method to get her out.

The firefighters were eventually able to free her by applying lithium grease on her sides and pushing her out.
