Madison Lady Bobcats take down Rigby Trojans in first game of tournament
The Madison Bobcats battled for the rights to play the Highland Rams Tuesday afternoon.
Rigby jumped out to an early 3 nothing lead in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice ly by Lexxus Trubl and a two run single by Sidnee Burgess.
The Bobcats caught a break when three errors were committed on one play allowing three runs to score in the bottom of the first inning.
Brenna Adams later scored the fourth run of the inning on a double steal of home.
In the top of the 2nd, Shayla Cherry singled in Sarah Shephard to tie the game up at 4.
A big double play ended the inning when Olyvia Saathoff hit a fly ball to left, with Shayla standing on third, she attempted to score on the fly ball, but was thrown out easily by a few feet.
Rigby took the lead again in the top of the 3rd when Burgess doubled to center scoring Merilee Fielding.
With two outs Taylor Shephard singled to right field scoring Trubl and Burgess giving Rigby a 7 to 4 lead.
Madison would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth as part of a 5 run rally and they would never look back.
It was not the cleanest game for the defense. Madison committed 4 errors while Rigby committed 8.
Burgess tallied 3 hits for Rigby along with 3 RBI’s. Cherry, Saathoff, Fielding and Aleena Cross each tallied two hits. Shepard also got three knocks in four at bats.
For Madison, Makenzie Fuller went three for four, while Madison Jensen tallied four hits.
Madison went on to face the Highland Rams later in the afternoon with the Rams scoring 5 runs in the 5th and 6th innings to take the lead and knock the Bobcats from playing for the district championship.
