Man found dead after high-speed chase
The suspect of a high-speed chase was found dead from a gunshot wound after the pursuit on Wednesday on Highway 91 near Inkom.
The high-speed chase started in Pocatello around 11:00 a.m. when Idaho State Police ran the plate of a car that came back stolen.
ISP tried to pull the car over, and the chase started.
Pocatello police and ISP pursued the car on South 5th.
After city limits ended, Pocatello police stopped, and ISP picked the chase back up near the Inkom Port of Entry.
The suspect took off down Highway 91.
The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office says speeds near 100 mph were recorded.
Police were able to spike the wheels, and officials said the suspect slowed down but still wouldn’t stop completely and was throwing stuff out of the car.
Inkom police then followed the car through Inkom as the suspect then went across to Inkom Road and turned toward Highway 91 again.
Bannock County Sheriff’s Office then took lead and did a pin maneuver (one in front one in back, one behind) to stop the vehicle on Highway 91.
Officials report the suspect ran into one of the sheriff’s cars.
After the pursuit ended, officials went to check on the driver, and officers discovered the man had shot himself.
Air rescue was called, and Tri County Sheriff’s Association came to investigate since multiple agencies were involved.
Officials said the suspect passed away at the hospital.
Family has not been notified, and the man’s name has not been released.
