UPDATE: Body found in pond near Menan Butte identified

UPDATE 5/9/18 11:10 a.m.: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports the male victim that was located and retrieved from the Jefferson County pond near the Menan Butte on Tuesday has been identified.

Officials said Blake Mitchell Landon, 29, was a resident of Roberts.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office preliminary investigation reveals that Landon died of accidental drowning.

No foul play is suspected, and next of kin has been notified.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office divers retrieved the body of a Caucasian male in his late twenties floating in about six feet of water in a pond near the Menan Butte on Tuesday around 11:01 a.m.

The sheriff’s office reports they first learned of this when they received a phone call from two women horseback riding in the wildlife management area of the Menan Butte.

The reporting party stated they believed they could see a body floating in a pond near the Butte.

Detectives responded to the location and observed what appeared to be the body of a deceased male floating in the pond.

Divers were then called and retrieved the deceased body.

The victim has not been identified, but Jefferson County Detectives are working diligently to identify the deceased and locate next of kin.

The sheriff’s office said no foul play is suspected at this time.
