Angels roll out the ‘royal treatment’ for moms

As Mother’s Day approaches this weekend, it’s a time to show appreciation to the special women in our lives. Visiting Angels Eastern Idaho took time Friday to surprise some deserving moms with the “royal treatment.”

“Today was really about surprise and delight for a few very special seniors that we provide care and compassion for,” said W. Scott Holmes, CEO of Visiting Angels.

Holmes and, Mike Beckstead, vice president, spent their Friday morning going to the houses of two clients.

“Often times, our seniors are living alone and somewhat isolated,” Holmes explained. “They want to remain independent in their homes for as long as possible.”

Iona Halpin, 88, had no idea what to expect when she heard a knock at her door.

She was decked out in a tiara, a feather boa and gifted with flowers, chocolates, and a balloon.

The mother of six, grandmother of 15, and great-grandmother of 16 said the visit was “pretty exciting.”

Halpin’s daughter, Linda Hanson, made the trek from Salt Lake City, Utah to spend the weekend with her mother. She was over the moon when the “angels” stopped by.

“I want to thank you guys for honoring my mother like this,” Hanson said. “I think that was really nice of you.”

The celebration didn’t end at Halpin’s home. Minutes later, the “angels” headed out to 86-year old’s Jacquelyn Olson’s home for her turn to get pampered like a queen.

“This was very, very nice,” Olson said. “I was totally not expecting this.”

The mother of five is very thankful for Visiting Angel’s Mother’s Day gifts and their help every other day of the year.

“Really wonderful to have one person who is here all day long,” Olson said. “It’s great.”

For Holmes and Beckstead, this was just a fun way to show their clients they are appreciated.

“Being able to show these wonderful smiles on these ladies today makes each day and what I do very, very special,” Beckstead said.

This was the first year Visiting Angels of Idaho Falls has made these Mother’s Day surprises. They hope to continue to give back to their clients more throughout the year.
