One person killed in ATV crash
Update: The driver of the ATV, who was killed in the crash, has now been identified as Matthew R. Steele, 40, of Idaho Falls.
Original Story:
An ATV rider was killed in an accident on Table Rock Road in the Kelly Canyon area at around 8:35 p.m. Saturday.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said an adult male driver was carrying an adult male passenger. The ATV left the road at a high rate of speed and wnt over an 11-foot embankment.
The passenger jumped free of the ATV and was not hurt. They said the driver was not able to get free and was severely injured when the ATV crashed at the bottom of the embankment.
Bystanders applied first aid until emergency personnel arrived, but the man died at the scene.
Deputies believe speed and alcohol were a factor in the crash. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a helmet.
The identities of the driver and the passenger have not been released.
