Snake River Softball takes down Sugar Salem, advances to state tournament

The Snake River Panthers claimed the final spot in the 3A State Tournament bracket with a 10 to 5 victory over the Sugar Salem Diggers.

They will face Homedale at Bonneville High School at 11:00 A.M.

The Diggers outhit the Panters 19 to 15, but made the most of their hits.

Anna Larsen pitched a complete game giving up 5 runs on 19 hits while striking out 5.

She started off the scoring with an opposite field home run to right field.

The Panthers put five runs on the board in the top of the 3rd highlighted by a 3 run jack from Maycee Brown.

The Panthers were up 9 to nothing, until the Diggers got a rally going in the 5th, when Sunny Bennion led off the inning with a single, and was followed by a double from Shayla Dopp. Both came into score on a Mady Handy double.

They scored a third run in the inning on a double steal attempt of second and home, with Handy coming in with the Digger’s third run.

Snake River would get one of those runs back on Kwynn Keller double.

The Diggers got two in the bottom of the seventh, before a ground out to third ended it.
