Problems are adding up at the site of a mudslide in Hoback Canyon Thursday.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation cleared a mudslide on U.S. 189/91 near milepost 151 Wednesday.
Since then, large chunks of debris have come down off the hillside and clogged ditches dug out Wednesday to catch water flow.
As a result, debris and mud have now overflowed the ditches and entered the road.
It was closed at 2:23 a.m. this morning to being clearing mud and debris.
WYDOT is hoping to clear a single lane of travel and guide traffic through the canyon with a pilot car. One that lane is cleared, crews will open the road.
State geologists have been called in to help assess the situation.
“At this point, we need to find the source and address it,” District Engineer Keith Compton said.
