The ribbon has been cut and the heavy equipment is moving on Bannock County’s first gated community. It ‘ s located just north of the Portneuf Wellness Complex.
The project has been in the works for about six years. It will bring high-tech business park, housing and medical complexes, and several new shopping areas and restaurants to this city within a city.
Economic and government dignitaries braved strong winds Friday to officially launch the project.
Developer say over the summer we will see a tremendous amount of activity.
” You are going to see the whole east side connector which comes from Olympus and makes its way out to the interchange all of that will be completed this year. The freeway interchange will be completed this year and then the west side connector that makes its way down to Siphon Road in Chubbuck will also be completed and with that a whole bunch of the property has already been rezoned and is zoned as commercial, ” said Buck Swaney, Managing Partner Millennial Group.
Several state and local agencies as well as private developers had to come together to make this project possible they say that this community will be a huge benefit to the entire southeastern Idaho area

Pocatello Mayor
” It will give them more amenities that we don’t have right now. It will give us the opportunity of having the stores and the restaurants and the shops that when you travel to Boise or you travel to Salt Lake those are the places people are going to. This will give them the opportunity to stay right here in town, ” said Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad.
Northgate’s Neighborhoods will be a glimpse into the future with some very high-end homes, complete with all the latest smart home technology.
There are currently several thousand homes planned. During the first phase, there will be a 55 and older community. There will also be a high density millennial complex, complete with rooftop patio areas facing the concert grounds of the Portneuf Wellness Complex.
” It’s more important that this community, that we are developing here, will have an impact on eastern Idaho. Up and down the I-15 corridor will be impacted by what we are doing right here today, ” said Blad.
Things will be moving fast on the Northgate project. Work on the homes begins next week. Several of the lots have already sold and people could be moving in as soon as September.
