Caution when buying food online
The internet makes buying and selling easier, but Eastern Idaho Public Health wants to let you know the dangers that could come from buying food online.
Because the food isn’t coming from a restaurant, there are no health code regulations. Meaning, you don’t know how it’s prepared and it could make you sick.
The department says it is not trying to get anyone in trouble especially those that may not know the procedure. They just want to keep the public safe and there are certain foods that are more dangerous than others.
“Anything that you’re dealing with food origin or has meat products in it, cut melons, things like that can actually make people sick after so many amounts of time. It can grow pathogens, the things that we’re not really too concerned about would be your basic simple bread, cookies, that are considered cottage foods,” says Kellye Eager, Eastern Idaho Public Health’s Environmental Health Director.
Not only is it a health risk, it also takes business away from those following procedure. If you would like to get a food license, you can contact Eastern Idaho Public Health and they will tell you where to go from there. That number is 208-522-0310.
