Museum preserving Iona’s history
A small town with a lot of history. The Iona Historical Museum is working to keep its history alive.
The museum was originally a tithing house for an LDS church. Now the museum is its own entity, it’s not owned by the LDS church or the city Iona. They operate on volunteers, donations and shop sales.
They have a lot of antique items and their most popular is the wagon box prophecy display. They say it’s important to keep history going.
“To preserve the heritage to know what happened. A lot of people are really interested to know about their ancestors and their families, in the lds church it’s a really big thing but in the world, it’s one of the major hobbies now. People check their genealogy and they want to know their heritage and they want to know where they came from,” says Marilyn Diehl, Chairman.
If you want to check out the museum they are open on Saturday 10 to 2. They say they can be often more often if they have more volunteers. If you want to volunteer you can contact Volunteer Chairman Shelly Miner at 714-553-8309.
