Two arrested after Blackfoot custody fight
A child custody dispute led to a knife attack and the arrest of two persons in Blackfoot Thursday. Christian Allen Schmidt, 43, and Robyn Lynn Smerdel, 34, both of Las Vegas, were arrested.
Blackfoot Police were called to reports of a fight at around 12:06 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of E. Judicial and North Stout. Officers were told that two suspects had run away.
The two were quickly located on Fisher near the intersection of Smith. After police secured the scene, ambulance and fire crews responded to treat people who were injured in the fight.
On person, identified as 41-year-old Richard Fowler of Blackfoot was transported by ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital.
According to police, officers determined the fight started as a child custody disagreement. During the fight, a knife was pulled out and Fowler was stabbed in the face.
Schmidt was arrested for aggravated battery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smerdel was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
