Still not known whether Grand Teton rock crack is dangerous
Grand Teton National Park officials in Wyoming are still trying to determine how much of a threat exists from a crack in rock above the popular Hidden Falls attraction.
The crack is in a rock wall a few hundred feet (91 meters) above the Hidden Falls viewing area, which has been closed to the public.
Ranger Simeon Caskey tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that if the buttress were to fail, chunks of rock might crash down on the viewing area.
There are many cracks in the rock but the one causing all the concern is believed to be new.
In the meantime, Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point and nearby areas remain closed. Jenny Lake as a whole remains open.
