Sharps fire 29 percent contained

The Sharps Fire is now estimated at 50,015 acres and is 29 percent contained.

Firefighters said the fire has been burning actively but, thanks to accurate weather predictions, they were able to strategically place firefighting resources at key locations.

There will be weather challenges again Thursday including gusty winds, hot temperatures, and low humidity, although increasing cloud cover could cool temperatures a little.

A community fire information meeting is set Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Hailey Community Campus, 1050 Fox Acres Road, where Incident Commander Beth Lund will provide residents with latest information.

There are numerous road closures, evacuations and pre-evacuation orders in place. More are being evaluated as the fire progresses to the north. The public is being asked to stay out of those areas.

Closures: Muldoon Canyon Road is closed from EE-DA-HO Ranch (east of Bellevue) to Hunt Road. Little Wood Reservoir Road is closed at the reservoir. High Five, Baugh Creek, Bay Horse, and Hunt roads are also closed. Quigley Road is closed at the mouth of the canyon where the payment ends. Slaughterhouse Creek Road is also closed where the pavement ends. These roads are closed to restrict access into the fire area where crews are working. The Forest Service has closed Cove Creek Road 1.5 miles from East Fork Road. The public is asked to stay out of these areas to allow for firefighter and public safety. More closures are being evaluated as the fire progresses to the north.

New Road Closures for Sharps Fire: The Sawtooth National Forest implemented an Area Closure for the Sharps fire area earlier today. This includes all roads, trails, and fire area until September 30, 2018 or rescinded by the Sawtooth National Forest Supervisor. The full closure order and map can be found under the Closure tab of this Sharps fire Inciweb site.

Evacuations: Mandatory evacuations are in place for the Little Wood Recreation Area Campground and all residences on Little Wood Reservoir Road and Flat Top Road north of the reservoir. High Five recreation sites are evacuated and closed.

Pre-Evacuation Notice: Fish Creek Road is under a pre-evacuation notice. Residents should prepare to leave at a moment’s notice. Gather critical documents, medications, children, and pets and be ready to go.
