Idaho Falls man arrested on drug charges after entering home, taking banana

Idaho Falls Police arrested a 40-year-old Idaho Falls man on six charges Thursday evening, including a felony drug charge.

Idaho Falls Public Safety Dispatch received two calls around 7:00 p.m. involving Dyreth Vongmany.

The first call was about a burglary which occurred on the 1200 block of East Sunnyside.

The homeowner and 16-year-old child told police they arrived home to find Vongmany inside their home.

The man is presumed to have entered the home through an unlocked back door. The homeowner believes he stole a banana.

Shortly thereafter, police responded to a report of a suspicious male yelling at houses and acting strangely.

The male was described as Asian, with a shaved head, no shirt, with tattoos on his upper body and head.

Police located a man matching that description at the intersection of Spring Creek Drive and Creek Side Drive, which turned out to be Vongmany.

When police questioned him about the unlawful entry which had just occurred, Vongmany told police he had been high on cocaine for the past three days.

He also disclosed he had cocaine at his home.

He gave consent for police to search the home, and police recovered 11.2 grams of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia from Vongmany’s home and sent further evidence to the state forensic lab for testing.

Vongmany was arrested on the charges of Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Entry, Possession of Paraphernalia With Intent to Use, Possession of a Controlled Substance- Marijuana, Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance in a Public Place and Resisting or Obstructing Officers.
