Portneuf River cleanup day set
Volunteers are being rounded up to join the Portneuf River Cleanup August 18.
The annual project is aimed at picking up debris and trash that have collected along the banks and in the river over the year. It will begin at 10 a.m. and end around noon and involve helpers from the City of Pocatello, Idaho State University’s Stream Ecology Center, and Valley Pride.
“Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the Portneuf looks better and better every year,” said Hannah Sanger, Science and Environment Division Administrator for the City of Pocatello.
Most of the work will concentrate in an area between Sacajawea Park and the J.R. Simplot Company plant. Others will focus on the Edson Fichter Nature area and near City Creek.
Volunteers should bring waders, water shoes, and work gloves and meet at the Pacific Recycling Trailhead on North Main (just north of Kraft Road where the Greenway Trail ends).
