Blackfoot Swimming Pool’s future still up in the air
There may still be some hope left for the Community Pool in Blackfoot.
The ‘Save the Pool Committee’ held a meeting Wednesday night where they discussed how long the pool should be funded.
They also talked about a bond proposal for $3.9 million dollars to be on the November ballot.
The bond would bring the pool up to all safety standards and take care of all electrical and mechanical costs.
The committee is optimistic about the bond.
“In the previous two bond elections, there was 60 percent support of the bond that’s seven percent short,” said Mike Virtue, a Save the Pool Committee member. “First one I think was 17 votes short of passing.”
This meeting comes after Tuesday night when it was proposed to stop funding the pool beginning in October.
The committee hopes it can convince the city to keep funding the pool until the November election.
The city council will hold another special session on August 21 to look at the budget and decide when to stop funding the pool.
