Police identify man who was shot and killed
UPDATE 8/15/18 5:00 p.m. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was shot Tuesday.
23-year-old Jorge Juarez of Idaho Falls was found deceased as a result of gunshot wounds inside the residence at 6020 W. Arco Hwy.
Deputies have identified a 21-year-old female victim that along with her 2-year-old child reported the incident around 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Through investigation, deputies found that in the early morning hours Tuesday the suspect, Pedro Zamora, took a shotgun from a family member’s residence in Idaho Falls.
That family member returned home to find the shotgun missing and made a report to the Idaho Falls Police Department.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., the 21-year-old victim in this case awoke to find Pedro Zamora in her bedroom with the 2-year-old child.
The victim then yelled for help from her brother, Jorge Juarez, who was sleeping in the next room.
At that time, officials report Zamora went to the hallway and shot Juarez with the shotgun.
According to the sheriff’s office, Zamora then began assaulting the female victim and ultimately took her and the child from the residence leaving in his blue Chevy Cobalt. He traveled to various areas with the female and child for an extended period of time until around 1:30 p.m. when he dropped them both off on the Arco Hwy near her residence.
The female was able to call for help at that time resulting in the response from deputies and emergency personnel.
As deputies arrived on scene, they were able to speak with Zamora by phone until deputies located him and his vehicle in a field near the lava beds just west of the intersection of 65th W. and 49th S.
Deputies negotiated with Zamora for his peaceful surrender for approximately 5 hours before he used the shotgun on himself and took his own life.
This investigation is still ongoing.
UPDATE 8:15 p.m. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded to a shooting near a home near 6020 West Arco Highway Tuesday afternoon.
As emergency personnel were in route, a description of the suspect, 20-year-old Pedro Zamora, and his car was given out with his last known direction of travel.
Deputies and emergency personnel confirmed that a male adult had been shot and killed.
Multiple Law Enforcement units searched the area west and south of Idaho Falls. During this time, Deputies began negotiations with Zamora over the phone.
Zamora and his car was found in a field near the lava beds west of the intersection of 49th South and 65th West.
Deputies set up a perimeter in the area, and negotiations continued with Zamora at that location for about 5 hours.
During the negotiations, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls Police SWAT Teams arrived and secured the perimeter. Drone operators from the Idaho Falls police and their equipment also arrived to help.
Zamora ultimately took his own life.
Deputies were able to secure the area and continue to investigate the shooting.
UPDATE 4:30 p.m. One person is dead after a shooting this afternoon at a trailer park on Arco Highway, west of Idaho Falls.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating what happened at 6020 W. Arco Highway, including the location of the shooter.
Neighbors have been coming out of their homes, shocked when they find out what has happened.
They say they are scared and nervous.
