Students and staff return to ISU for first day of classes
As the summer winds to a close, Pocatello is filling up once again. The streets have more cars, the restaurants have fewer seats and desks and chairs are beginning to be filled on the campus of Idaho State University.
Monday marks the first day of classes for many students in the Gem State and for nearly the 120th year in the Gate City, ISU students.
The streets around campus are packed with cars and buses dropping students off and picking them up.
In addition to being many student’s first days, it’s also the “first day” for new ISU President Kevin Satterlee.
Satterlee is expected to change the atmosphere on campus after the recent turmoil under former President Arthur Vailas.
Stuart Summers, VP of marketing and communications for the University said that the first day is always filled with excitement as students reunite with or make friends and try to find out where they have to go for their classes.
Summers said that when the students come back, “the entire community becomes vibrant. When you’re welcoming back thousands of students to campus, it’s just a natural thing that is going to happen.”
There are lots of things for students to look forward to in the coming weeks like campus cook outs, athletics and other student-driven events. And, of course, who can forget homecoming?
