Central Fire District getting ready for new station ribbon cutting

The Central Fire District will be celebrating tomorrow. They are holding a ribbon cutting for their new fire station in Menan.

The new station is a lot bigger and more state of the art than the old one. They say they needed more space.

“Our previous station was very small. The firefighters didn’t have any room to clean hoses when they came back from a fire. When they had hoses to clean we always had to leave the trucks outside, drag the hoses inside to clean them. When it’s cold it is almost an impossible job to do,” says Carl Anderson, Fire Chief for Central Fire District.

“The concept of this building, it’s round it’s a dome, was thought out in 1997. We actually drew it out on the back of an envelope 21 years ago. It took planning, time and money and now that we are in it it is very exciting,” says Mike Miller, Fire Commissioner for Central Fire District.

The new building did not cost taxpayers any money. The Central Fire District says they saved money for it so they would not cause a tax burden.

The ribbon cutting starts tomorrow night at 5 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. The address is 3535 E Menan Lorenzo Hwy. The public is invited to get a tour of the building.
