Beaver Creek Fire reaches 35 percent containment, Goldstone Fire reaches 22 percent
UPDATE 8/29/18: All road and trail closures on the Salmon-Challis side of the Goldstone Fire have been terminated.
This includes Forest Road #186, Kenny Creek Road, Forest Road #185, Warm Springs Road; Forest Road #184, Kenny Wood Road; and Forest Road #60733 from the gate in Ghoul Basin to the end of the road are now open.
The Goldstone Fire closure has been reduced.
The new closure area is contained in the north by Forest Service Road (FSR) 7330, on the east by FSR 181 (Bloody Dick Road), on the south by Terrell Creek, and on the west by the Continental Divide Trail.
Reservoir Lake, Horse Prairie, and Bloody Dick Cabin are open and accessible. In support of the closure, the Continental Divide Trail has been rerouted around the fires.
UPDATE 8/28/18: The lightning-caused Goldstone Fire, located 18 miles S of Jackson, MT, that started on August 2 and has grown to 9,337 acres is 22 percent contained.
The lightning-caused Beaver Creek Fire, located 18 miles NE of Wisdom, MT, started on August 11 and has grown to 2,074 acres and is 35 percent contained.
There has been little observable smoke and no fire movement on both the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires for several days.
Both fires are currently holding within the established firelines, and crews have begun suppression repair work throughout both fire areas.
UPDATE 8/24/18: The lightning-caused Goldstone Fire, located 18 miles S of Jackson, MT, that started on August 2 and has grown to 9,311 acres is seven percent contained.
The lightning-caused Beaver Creek Fire, located 18 miles NE of Wisdom, MT, started on August 11 and has grown to 2,068 acres and is 13 percent contained.
After several days of cooler temperatures and wetting rains, fire managers are preparing for increasingly dry conditions to re-enter the area over the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires.
Given the hot, dry and windy conditions that are expected, the incident meteorologist has issued a local Red Flag Warning over the fire area.
The three helicopters currently assigned to the fires may be used Friday to drop buckets of water onto observable hot spots to slow fire spread and temper-fire activity.
Firefighters are implementing a full suppression strategy on both fires.
There are currently no evacuation orders in effect for the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires.
The area around both fires remains closed for public safety.
Roadblocks have been set up on forest roads accessing the two fire areas.
In support of these closures, the Continental Divide Trail has been rerouted around the fires. The trail reroute maps and closure orders for both forests can be found HERE.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect.

It is located 18 miles S of Jackson, MT.
The lightning-caused Beaver Creek Fire started on August 11 and has grown to 2,067 acres and is eight percent contained.
It is located 18 miles NE of Wisdom, MT.
The Incident Management Team will host a community meeting for the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Wisdom Community Building in Wisdom, Montana.
A second community meeting will be hosted on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the 17 Mile Fire Station in Salmon, Idaho.
Both meetings will be recorded and posted on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Salmon-Challis National Forests’ Facebook pages for those unable to attend in-person.
