What you should know with flu season around the corner
With “flu” season just around the corner, health official are urging people to get vaccinated for this year’s strain. Last year, the CDC estimated over 80 thousand deaths due to influenza and complications associated with the illness. It was also the highest death toll for over 40 years.
This year, there has been a more aggressive approach to fighting the illness. Everyone is encouraged to get the vaccinated to protect against this years strain (2018/19). Influenza is highly contagious and can be contracted by everyone. However, children and the elderly are most vulnerable to its debilitating effects.
It is a respiratory illness that causes fever, headache, extreme fatigue, body and muscle aches, sore throat, runny nose and a dry cough. Individuals who get vaccinated can still contract the illness however, the effects can be much milder. Medical professionals are highly concerned about this illness and highly recommend getting vaccinated to contain this year’s strain.
