Roosevelt fire closures to end
Forest Service closures on the Roosevelt fire near Bondurant, Wyoming will be lifted at noon Friday. Showers are expected to continue and some snow is possible, so minimal fire behavior is expected.
As of 9 a.m., there were 124 personnel assigned to the fire. It is 85 percent contained and was listed at 61,511 acres. More crews were released Thursday, leaving only enough necessary equipment to attain full containment and finish fire line suppression repair work. Six engines and two dozers remained on the fire lines Friday.
The fire was human-caused by an unattended warming fire. 55 structures were destroyed.
As the closures lift, stage one fire restrictions will also be lifted at noon, Friday, but all evacuation zones remain at the “READY” level.
Fireline suppression repair involves pulling back berms from dozer-constructed fire lines, removing handmade fire line, and installing water drainage features to prevent natural resource damage from rain and snow.
Fire managers warn that for some time, visitors may encounter unpredictable spreading of flames inside the fire perimeter, rolling rocks or logs, falling branches and flash flooding. There may also be some localized pockets of heavy smoke. Visitors enter the fire area at their own risk.
