An American Immigration Council profile details the impact of immigrants in Idaho.
The council’s fact sheet shows the state has a small but growing immigrant population. Only 6 percent of the state’s residents are immigrants, but they account for 8 percent of the state’s labor force. Immigrants make up 40 percent of Idaho’s farming and fishing industries’ workforce.
The data also shows immigrants in Idaho contributed $306.7 million in federal taxes and $154 million in state and local taxes in 2014.
Immigrants spent $1.5 billion in Idaho’s economy while immigrant entrepreneurs accounted for 5.3 percent of all resident-business and generated $104.2 million in business revenue in 2015.
