Glass recycling soon available in Idaho Falls
People living in Idaho Falls now have more options when it comes to recycling.
The city is getting bins to recycle glass. It has taken a while to get this to happen, because the city says it was hard to find a vendor who could collect and recycle such a large volume of glass. It has hired Momentum Recycling out of Salt Lake City to pick up the glass. The recycling containers will be available in about six to eight weeks at the city’s 13 different recycling locations. The city says recycling extends the life of the landfill in Bonneville County.
“We’re going to reduce our footprint in Bonneville County landfill, we’re going to reduce more tons going to the landfill,” said Jordan Rechenmacher, the sanitation superintendent. “And it’s another option that we’re able to bring Idaho Falls citizens in regards to being able to recycle their glass, which hasn’t been common here lately.”
There will be no curbside recycling for the glass. The city says it does not want to compete with a private company that already does that. You can find the closest recycling location to you here.
