Local youth bands get ready to compete on the big stage
Local bands are getting ready to perform their hearts out and show eastern Idaho what they are made of. Saturday night is Idaho Falls Arts Council’s Battle of the Bands at the Colonial Theater.
From friends who have grown up together to siblings that formed bands at a young age, those competing say the performances should be nothing short of excitement for all. Especially with diverse genres of music that include; classic rock, reggae, bluegrass and more.
All members of entering bands must be 21 or younger. Each band gets to perform for 12 to 15 minutes with a professional crew and sound and light systems.
The talent involved Saturday hope that this could be a way to get more recognition in their music careers.
“We’re looking at a lot of publicity and we think that this would be a good way to get us out there and get us more viewers or YouTube and our Facebook page,” said Kaleb Squiers, the drummer for Opposing Forces.
With more excitement than nerves, these bands are ready to prove what they are made of and compete for the top prize. This year’s prizes include over $3,000 worth of gear packages and gift certificates from No Limit Guitar Co.
Bands said they cannot wait share their love of music with their community, as well see fellow music lovers compete.
“This whole Battles of the Bands is like, sure it’d be cool to win first place or just place,” said Kiersten Landon, the bass guitarist for Opposing Forces. “But just the fact that we’re getting up on stage and playing together as a group and enjoying what we’re playing and being part of the music.”
Battle of the Bands starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The event is free to the public.
