Idaho Falls man arrested for burglary

Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm on the 1700 block of Bone Road Saturday around 2:30 a.m.

Deputies located 41-year-old John W. Peppard of Idaho Falls and an adult female in a vehicle near an outbuilding.

Peppard told the deputies he was stuck in the snow and had to break into the shop to borrow shovels to dig themselves out.

When deputies checked the building, they found the alarm box had been destroyed along with a phone and evidence indicating someone had been siphoning gas from a snowmobile.

When questioned about the damage, Peppard told deputies he was scared when he heard the alarm go off and just wanted to get his vehicle out and go home.

Peppard also admitted to deputies he attempted to take the siphoned gas for his vehicle as well as some antifreeze but had no explanation as to why he didn’t just use the phone to call for help.

Peppard was placed under arrest and transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for burglary.

Deputies gave the female adult traveling with Peppard was given a ride home and any potential charges for her involvement are pending review by the Bonneville County Prosecutor’s Office.
