District 93 gives students a chance to fast forward future
Are you a Bonneville School District 93 student who is looking to get ahead in school? The school district is hosting Advanced Opportunities Night on Monday.
Advanced Opportunities Night is a chance for parents and students to learn more about colleges and the Advanced Opportunities program in the district.
The program collects $4,125 for every Idaho students in grades 7 through 12 in a public school.
Students are able to use the money to take dual credit classes and earn college credit while in high school. Students must be either halfway through their high school graduation requirements or 16 years old.
“Last year, over the school year, we had over 1,800 kids (who) participated and earned just over 80,000 credits district-wide,” said Corey Telford, the Advanced Opportunities coordinator at Bonneville School District 93. “This year, we fully expect that we will reach over 2,000 students and hopefully, we’ll get to 10,000 credit limit.”
Starting this year, middle school students can earn high school credit by replacing one of their electives and take a required course for high school. Telford said this program will help students get ahead and allow them to start taking college credit courses by their sophomore year.
The meeting will be on Feb. 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Thunder Ridge High School Performing Arts Center.
