Homeowner recounts attempted robbery
Idaho Falls police responded to an attempted robbery on the 400 block of Neptune early Sunday morning.
Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News 3 received exclusive video from Cash Shamel of the home invasion.
We caught up with him a day after the attempted robbery.
“The biggest incident started right here where I took him down,” said Shamel pointing at the landing at the top of the stairs, “and hit him in the face with his own shotgun, disarmed him with his own weapon, threw it on the ground.”
“He tried to go back for it again here, scuffled along, I mean I was throwing punches getting really crazy,” he continued as he showed damage to the house.
“My fiancee was over here, as soon as she was clear from the weapon, she stood up, and ran towards the bedroom and made a call to police,” he said.
Shamel says police arrived in 9 minutes from the call and apprehended the intruder about a half block away.
“Cop didn’t even need to ID the suspect, cause I have a video camera and the cop came and watching the video and was like no no no, I saw it that’s him for sure,” said Shamel.
Shamel says he doesn’t know the guy or where he came from. But he says it was a very scary situation for him as a new homeowner.
He says he will now always check to lock his doors and add more security to his home.
Idaho Falls Police is still investigating the case.
The identity of the two people in custody has not been released at this time.
